How does Lee know how to do this stuff, you ask? Well, not every cartoon they watch is unrealistic, y'know.

I mean, sure, they're unrealistic in terms of social interactions, psychology, law, violence, sex, finance, et cetera, but performing an operation that's somewhere between hotwiring a car and replacing the double-A batteries in a toy? That's so elementary (in 2167) that it'd be weird if the cartoons got it wrong. That, and technology is so advanced in 2167 that lots of computer components are intercompatible, easy to fix and hard to break. Also, both Nina and Zoa know how to do this stuff quite well for obvious reasons, they can warn Lee if they're about to fry something.

Now, like I said, Lee's perception of social interactions - both with humans and with AIs that they're currently asserting are equivalent to humans - is absolutely unrealistic, which is why they didn't just ask Otto to slow down so they could perform these repairs in a safe manner.

Also, let's be honest, I just like drawing big stupid action scenes. Forward is mostly talking heads, the last thing we need is calm humanoid faces solving their problems with walls of text.

0448– 2167/07/07/13:30 – sidewalk, LC in Nina’s chassis is following Otto, performing midair self-robo-surgery
Nina (electronic communication): By the way, it’s probably for the best if Otto doesn’t assess your operation of my chassis as unsafe for the general public.
LC (electronic communication): Yeah, I figured. Prepare for disruption to your systems’ electricity supply.
Nina (electronic communication): I’m backed up, with operational subroutines being run through the processor that’s closest to the capacitor bank. Whenever you’re ready.
LC (electronic communication): Okay, hotswapping power sources in three… two… one...

[A ramshackle general purpose automaton, pieced together out of garbage, briefly goes dark while traveling at 60km/h.]

[The robot scrapes across the pavement for a fraction of a second before beeping and righting itself.]

Otto: Mezzer Caldavera, are you having difficulty operating your general purpose automaton?
LC (through Sami Seagull, clearly still recovering function): LOOP DE LOOPS ARE FUN, OTTO! DO YOU WANT TO DO LOOP DE LOOPS WITH ME?
Otto: Oh… no thank you.
LC (through Sami Seagull): YOUR LOSS!
